LASOONA, Oxfam launch referral directory to improve access to justice

PESHAWAR: The launching ceremony of referral directory developed under the “Improved Access to Fair, Legitimate & Effective Justice in Pakistan” project was organized by Oxfam GB in Pakistan in collaboration with its implementing partner LASOONA - Society for Human and Natural Resource Development, on improving the rule of law in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a local hotel here on the other day.

The ceremony convened the members of the provincial assembly, legislatures, justice providers, non-governmental organizations, local media and civil society members. The ceremony was graced by Rakhshanda Naz – Ombudsperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the Chief Guest.

Azam Khan - Executive Director, LASOONA, shared the objective and overview of the launching ceremony with the participants in his welcome note. He acknowledged the Oxfam’s contribution to improving citizens’ access to justice through improving confidence and trust between the citizens and justice providers.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Fiza Hussain, representative of Governance Pillar at Oxfam GB in Pakistan, shared the significant contribution of Oxfam GB in Pakistan and LASOONA in providing technical assistance to formal justice-providing institutions in KP to improve access of marginalized sections of society through the formal justice system.

The referral directory was inaugurated by Rakhshanda Naz – Ombudsperson KP, whereas Shazia, DSP Head Quarter KP Police, Riffat Sardar, Chairperson KPCSW, MPA Wilson Wazir and Waqar Gilani – Project Manager, LASOONA addressed the participants on the occasion.

Oxfam is implementing its project “Improved Access to Fair, Legitimate and Effective Justice in Pakistan’’ with LASOONA in Charsadda and Nowshera districts. The project focuses on citizens’ legal empowerment and strengthens confidence-building measures between citizens and formal justice institutions. During the past years, Oxfam GB in Pakistan and its partner LASOONA collaborated with formal justice institutions to provide technical assistance for effective delivery of service to address citizens’ needs and improve their access to justice institutions.
