Annual Refresher-Capacity-Building Workshop for CSOs and DIG

PESHAWAR: A number of civil society organizations and District Interest Group members participated in a one day capacity building workshop in Peshawar. The workshop was arranged by the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) and Safar Welfare Organization (SWO) under the European Union funded project, titled “Democratic Local Governance for Development in Pakistan” jointly implemented by the CPDI and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Pakistan (FNF).

The Project Coordinator, CPDI, Jamshed Tariq said that the annual refresher workshop was arranged to ensure that the skills and knowledge of the CSOs and DIG about leadership and advocacy was maintained and enhanced. During the workshop, the participants were facilitated on leadership skills, advocacy, citizens’ report card, RTI and budget tracking.

Nasim Akhter, Chairperson, SWO said that the DLG Pakistan Project intended to promote the participatory development and strengthen the local governance system. The training was one of the initiatives taken under the project that would enhance the capacity of local CSOs and citizens in the selected districts for dealing with the local issues in their localities to improve local governance and participatory development, she added.

The participants of the training expressed that a positive change could only be expected in the local governance by developing the capacity of human resources. They also expressed their gratitude to the European Union which was funding the project for strengthening the local governance in Peshawar.
