ST Science Journalism Fellowship 2024 concluded

PESHAWAR: The weekly Sunrise Today in collaboration with Directorate General of Science & Technology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized the season two of ST Science Journalism Fellowship here on Thursday at the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences) in which 13 working journalists from different districts, including NMDs of KP participated and got training on science journalism.

The key resource person of the training was internationally acclaimed scientist and Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Sarhad University, Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal (T.I.), while senior journalists Muhammad Shahid and Asif Khan Turk also delivered their lectures to the fellows.

Dr Taza Gul, Director, Directorate General of Science & Technology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, represented the directorate and highlighted its role in promoting science and technology in the province.

Prof Zafar Iqbal while delivering his lecture to the participants stated, “In today’s world, there is a big responsibility over the shoulders of journalists, therefore, they should not only learn science by themselves but also spread the scientific knowledge among the public to establish science culture in society.”

Senior journalists Muhammad Shahid and Asif Khan Turk emphasized on the fellows to start science journalism without any further delay and fill the gap between scientists and public to bring a positive and prominent change in the lifestyle of common man. They further stated that journalists should study science and technology to improve their scientific literacy.

Director, IMSciences, Prof Dr Usman Ghani also participated in the concluding session of the fellowship and told that science journalism was a modern and useful discipline, therefore, the journalist fraternity should also focus on it to play role in the progress of the country.
