Quackery on TV

Dear Editor,

I went through your last editorial, titled “Radio channels promoting quackery”, which was very good and I appreciate your efforts for highlighting such an important issue but I have few observations in this regard to continue the discussion.

An essential cause of quackery in our country is the lack of trust of people in the health system. Similarly, doctors’ insensitivity, lack of knowledge, and malpractices are also the important causes. Look at the recipe of a doctor, it would not be different than that of a dispenser or a technician practicing medicine.

However, these are not just FM radio channels, there are also a few private TV channels, where quacks talk so rubbish and promote illogical and unscientific things in their programs but the TV channels don’t care about it and just for money spread the mess of quackery.

It is also worth to mention that these quacks charge more than a senior physician. People go with full pockets to their so-called clinics but return empty handed, which is not only a big financial loss but also a huge risk to their health.

Similarly, if one will watch these TV shows, he/she will laugh uncontrollably because, there would be extreme kind of bullshit content without any proper scientific research but just for greed, these TV channels don’t care about ethics and journalistic responsibility.

Therefore, PEMRA and health authorities should immediately take notice of this wrong practice on TV channels by banning them from promoting quacks and quackery to stop playing with precious human lives in the country.
