Gandhara University holds award ceremony

PESHAWAR: Gandhara University Peshawar held an academic award distribution ceremony here on Thursday. The Minister for Higher Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prof Dr Qasim Jan was the chief guest on the occasion, while people from different walks of life attended the event.

The function started with a welcome note by the Vice Chancellor Gandhara University Prof Dr Ijaz Hassan Khan Khattak. He highlighted the role played by the university in providing quality medical education to the students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and students coming from other provinces as well.

The Minister for Higher Education appreciated the efforts of the faculty of the university for making the students able to strive for excellence like other medical universities of the country.

While putting light on the performance and importance of the university, the VC said, “Gandhara University is a private university located in Peshawar, and is chartered by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government. The institutes that became Gandhara University were initially founded in October 1995 by surgeon Dr Muhammad Kabir.”

He said that the university was the first private medical university of the province which had provided specialized training in health sciences. He also mentioned that the university was recognized by the Higher Education Commission and accredited by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and also affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan for postgraduate dental courses.
