Intellectuals Forum urges to lift ban on appointments

PESHAWAR: The Intellectuals Forum – a representative body of the Peshawar University’s teachers, has demanded the provincial government and the authorities concerned to lift ban on appointments at the University as a number of contract lecturers working here for the last seven years, would lose their jobs in the current month, if their contract would not be renewed.

In this regard, a meeting of the Intellectuals Forum held on Thursday in which a large number of the faculty members of the University participated. During the meeting, the participants urged the President, Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) to play his due role in the matter of ban on the appointment of lecturers and other faculty members at the University.

In response to the demand of the Intellectuals Forum, the PUTA’s president assured that negotiations with the concerned authorities were in progress and the ban on appointments at the University of Peshawar would be lifted soon.

Meanwhile, the Intellectuals Forum’s spokesperson stated that they would wait till Monday for the fulfillment of their demand; however, if the ban would not be lifted then they would raise their voice on every forum and platform for the rights of the teaching fraternity.
