CM approves establishment of sports city in Regi Model Town

PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan on Thursday approved the establishment of proposed Sports City in Regi Model Town Peshawar under the management of Directorate General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The CM Mahmood Khan directed that the necessary action for the commencement of practical work should be completed very soon under the supervision of international consultants. The Secretary Sports Abid Majeed, Additional Secretary Junaid Khan, Director General Sports Asfandyar Khattak and other officials were present in the meeting.

The Chief Minister was informed that the Directorate General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had sought applications from consultancy firms for the establishment of the Sports City, to which six firms had applied and the consultant would be selected through regular, transparent and public advertisement.

We were overseeing the implementation of various sports projects, and the proposed Sports City project was a part of the vision of the Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to promote sports in the province, said the Secretary Sports Abid Majeed.

Work on upgrading the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium had been going on since last year and the contractors had been asked to work according to, Additional Secretary Junaid Khan said, adding that the government was taking concrete measures to provide more sports facilities to youth and the initiative would help keep youth away from negative activities. He added that the government was successfully fulfilling its commitment to construct 1000 sports grounds for youth and in this regard hefty funds were being utilized.

According to the DG Sports Asfandyar Khattak, Sports City has 9 holes golf course, a class hostel for 400 players, football ground with flood year ground, inter-routes, multi-purposes boxing arena and martial arts indoor gymnasium.
