Mental health should be given priority: Zubaida Firdous

PESHAWAR: Renowned columnist Zubaida Firdous Zobi has said that the government and the concerned authorities and quarters should give enough importance and priority to the status of mental health as the prevailing situation in the country was very alarming in this regard.

She expressed these views as a special guest while addressing a function on eve of the World Mental Health Day at the clinic of a well-known psychiatrist, Dr Khwaja Younas here on Saturday. Apart from doctors, psychologists and medical students, a number of people from different walks of life attended the event.

She stated that nowadays a large number of people was suffering from different mental health problems, especially depression and anxiety, therefore, mental health experts should be consulted in time as it was an international practice.

While addressing the audience, Dr Khwaja Younas emphasized on adopting a happy and tension-free life and said that if anyone felt any psychological problem, he/she should contact a psychologist or a psychiatrist, instead of feeling shame related to the stigma of being ‘mental’.
