Cycling, athletics be promoted, PCF demands

PESHAWAR: Syed Azhar Ali Shah, President, Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) has demanded the government to promote cycling, athletics and other games like cricket in the country.

He was talking to media persons in Peshawar on Tuesday. He said that despite the best performance of Pakistani cyclists on national and international level, millions of grants for cycling were suspended for the last two years, while it was a fact that only the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government was patronizing the cycling.

He stated that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the calendar of cycling competitions had been adversely affected but now the SOPs had been prepared and sent to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and other concerned authorities for holding cycling events, adding that it was hoped that permission would be given to the PCF.

Mr Shah appreciated the KP government for supporting the PCF in providing grants and said that due to that the provincial players were performing very well on national and international level and he hoped that if the government continues this trend, soon the players would become international champions.
