PESHAWAR: Dr Mahboob-ur-Rahman, Chairman, Mahboob Medical Institute (MMI), Peshawar, has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government had extended Sehat Sahulat Program (SSP) to all population of the province which was a big development; however, the problems of special persons and physically retarded, paralyzed and mentally disturbed people should also be addressed by including them in SSP.

While talking to the Sunrise Today here on Thursday, Dr Mahboob-ur-Rahman stated that the provision of rehabilitation services to ailing community by the government was very necessary and important as special persons and physically challenged people were also a part of the society, adding that Health Department was planning the rehabilitation of elder population under the same program but still there was no development in this regard.

The Chairman MMI said that the government should take positive steps for the people of this neglected segment of the society and start the physiotherapy and rehabilitation services under the Sehat Insaf Card (SIC), saying that there was a dire need of a comprehensive planning for these people and now the healthcare system should be moved from medical model of rehabilitation to social model of rehabilitation.
