Universities not ranked for online education: HEC

Bureau Report

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has said that universities were neither evaluated nor issued any ranking for their online education, whereas a section of press had published a news about the ranking of universities with respect to online teaching, however, that news was fake and contrary to reality.

In a press release issued on Monday, the HEC’s spokesperson said that actually the HEC had asked the universities to self-report their readiness for online education and that self-reporting had been shared with the public. The list referred to by some universities was just a statement of how much informations had been submitted by them. So far, 138 universities had submitted their informations and that were available online, whereas the remaining universities had yet to submit their reports.

The spokesperson stated that the purpose of making the informations available online was to help the universities improve their performance, rather than their ranking. The percentage figure associated with various universities refers simply to the quantum of the informations they had submitted by the due date and it was not a comparison or reflection of the quality of their online teaching.

The spokesperson further said that the HEC would evaluate the informations once completed by the universities and would duly inform the media, if any qualitative ranking is developed as a result, adding that the media should cross check such news before publishing or on-airing.
