World Autism Awareness Day marked at UoP

PESHAWAR: The Department of Psychology, University of Peshawar (UoP) has observed the World Autism Awareness Day 2022 here on Friday in which psychologists emphasized on the different quarters of society of play active role in addressing the challenging situation of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Pakistan.

A function was organized at the Department of Psychology in which the Pro-Vice Chancellor, UoP Prof Dr Zahid Anwar participated as the Chief Guest, whereas the Chairperson, Psychology Department, Prof Dr Erum Irshad, faculty members, students, parents of autistic children and autistic children registered with the department’s therapy unit as well as people from different walks of life were in attendance.

Speaking to the participants Prof Dr Erum Irshad said that autism was a big challenge in the prevailing situation of which proper addressal was very much necessary, adding that autism was a psychological disorder of children in which they faced issues related to their social skills, behavior and non-verbal communication and speech etc.

The Chief Guest Prof Dr Zahid Anwar while addressing the audience stated that he was proud of the marked services of the Department of Psychology which had not only played active and wonderful role on provincial level, but on national level as well, saying that awareness was highly important in society regarding autism.
