SJSP to organise Pakhtunkhwa Science Journalism Training Program

PESHAWAR: The weekly Sunrise Today through its subsidiary organisation – Science Journalism Society of Pakistan (SJSP), has announced to arrange a 3 months long training activity, titled ‘Pakhtunkhwa Science Journalism Training Program’ this year (2021) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A press release issued by the office of SJSP here on Saturday, says that in this program, more than 100 journalists will be professionally trained on science and technology by highly qualified and internationally recognized science experts to further enhance their knowledge, skills and capabilities and play their due role in educating the society through their stories, features and articles.

The press release states that this is the first ever training project of its kind in the history of Pakistan, especially the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Its prime objective is to train the local media persons on science journalism and communication to promote scientific literacy and science culture in the society.

“It is a special media training being conducted for the first time in Pakistan. It comprises of lectures, presentations, field visits, workshops, seminars and interactions. The content of the course is so enriched to include all the basic requisites that a journalist ought to know. It means that it is a complete package designed to meet the needs of a media person to equip himself/herself with the knowledge of science journalism and play his/her role in improving the access of common man to science,” the press release adds.

Applications are invited from journalists based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to participate in the program. Interested candidates may send their CVs along with cover letters and passport size photos on sunrisetodayofficial@gmail.com before July 15, 2021. There is no age limit but early and mid career journalists will be preferred. Women, transgender, special persons and non-Muslims are particularly encouraged to apply, further says the press release.
