Popular Pashto radio show celebrates its fourth anniversary

PESHAWAR: A Peshawar based state-run FM channel Pakhtunkhwa Radio celebrated fourth anniversary of its popular Pashto show ‘Tul Parsang’ aired on every Tuesday night at 8pm to 10pm attracting an overwhelming response from the audience spread over the entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The cake cutting ceremony was performed by Prof Dr Abaseen Yousafzai in the presence of the radio officials here on Tuesday, while a number of people from different walks was also present on the occasion.

Prof Abaseen Yousafzai, the anchor person while sharing his views with this scribe told that the Pakhtunkhwa Radio FM channel had been successful in promoting the peace narrative through literary show covering a wide range of topics – classical literature, local traditions, music, and critical evaluation of selected master pieces of Pashto fiction, prose, and poetry. 

“I put up the idea and it was instantly hit but the expectations were unthinkable in the wake of increasing social media influence, however, initially the show titled ‘Tul Parsang’ a literary show was planned for quarter with limited range of topics but with the passage of time the show proved a huge success and its widespread popularity forced to expand its cope and increase its time duration from one hour to two hours,” he elaborated.

Yasir Bacha, a noted young poet and presenter on Pakhtunkhwa Radio said that he had learnt a lot from the experience and scholarship of Prof Abaseen Yousafzai as he had been a co-presenter of the Tul Pasrang show. He said the success of a radio show unprecedented as most people had no time owing to their busy life routine but our show attracted woman, youth, professional and especially audience in rural areas.

“The listeners of our show has crossed over millions and it is a great moment for us to promote peace narrative through literary show which sheds light on almost every scholarly topic and also the show gives a chance to audience to participate in discussion through live calls where they not only share their thoughts and ideas but also put forward queries,” stated the presenter.
