KMU to establish general teaching hospital

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University has decided to establish a general teaching hospital at the main campus. The hospital will initially have 300 beds and will provide clinical research as well as research facilities in all the fields, including emergency, radiology and pathology.

This decision was taken in the 14th meeting of the HoDs, chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zia-ul-Haq. Deans and heads of various institutes/departments participated in the meeting, whereas Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Gandapur was also present on the occasion.

In the meeting, the previous decisions were reviewed and satisfaction was expressed with their progress. The Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zia-ul-Haq told that all medical facilities would be available in the proposed university general hospital, adding that it would be a modern and model teaching hospital where not only thousands of students from various fields of KMU would be provided clinical training but it would also provide diagnostic and treatment services to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan.

He explained that all the facilities would be available at subsidized rates in the hospital and it would be operated under an independent professional management board, whereas the university’s syndicate would do the overall supervision.

During the meeting, a high-level committee was also formed to prepare the working paper of the proposed hospital as soon as possible, while it was also directed to take necessary approval from the Higher Education Commission in this regard.

Meanwhile, a demonstration was presented regarding making the examination system fully digitalized and it was agreed to take all the necessary steps to make the examinations of all levels digital at the earliest. Furthermore, many important and urgent decisions were also taken after separate discussions on the problems and issues of various institutes, whereas strict implementation of the discipline code for faculty and students was decided as well.
