HEC directs universities not to offer two year B.A/B.Sc

ST Report

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed the universities/Degree Awarding Institutes (DAIs) not to offer admissions in two year B.A/B.Sc programs and the degrees shall not be recognized by the HEC for the students enrolled in these programs after December 31, 2018.

A notification issued by the HEC here on the other day stated that Letter No. 9-2(16)/ Phasing out B.A/B.Sc/Curri/HEC/2016/982 dated March 15, 2017 and Letter No. 15-54/A&C/2019/HEC/691 dated July 11, 2019, it has been noticed with grave concern that these programs are still being offered by universities/Degree Awarding Institutes (DAIs) and their affiliated colleges.

In response to the HEC’s direction to universities/DAIs, a number of students and their parents have expressed their grave concern and stated that actually it was an act of closing the doors of affordable and easy education for the poor and financially weak students of the country.

They added that the government and the HEC should broaden the mode of education instead of adopting such steps as majority of the students were not from financially sound backgrounds and these two year degree programs were the only way to pursue higher education at door step.
